Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell works as a journalist at NBC News based out of Washington D.C. Mitchell has a BA degree in English from the University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell began her career in the field of radio and television reporter for Philadelphia, KYW Radio and TV. She joined the CBS subsidiary WDVM-TV (then WTOP) in Washington DC in 1976. Then, she became a Washington general correspondent to NBC News two years later. In 1981 she started reporting from the White House. In 1988 she was named head of the congressional reporters. Mitchell was appointed the Chief White House correspondent in 1992. and the chief correspondent for foreign affairs at NBC News. Mitchell is a regular in the TV news show Meet the Press as a host and panelist. She served as a panelist during the 1988 presidential debates with George Bush and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell married Alan Greenspan the former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. In 2005, Mitchell was awarded the highly coveted Goldsmith Career Award for Excellence in Journalism from the John F. Kennedy School of Government and in 2004 the Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) awarded Mitchell by awarding her the Leonard Zeidenberg Award in recognition of her contribution to the protection of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell was the first journalist to write about White House stories for NBC News during the presidency of Ronald Reagan in office from 1981 to 1988. Her coverage included a variety of significant stories, including the Iran-contra scandal, the budget and tax reform in addition to the issue of arms control. Mitchell traveled extensively along with the president Reagan during summits with Mikhail Gorbachev.
